this happes due to the flash.osx file missing

This may be the solution

Macromedia Flash Player is a popular utility used by programmers today to develop interactive websites. Flash Player is embedded in web pages with the help of ActiveX controls. These controls enable programmers to include those features and functionalities in your Internet Explorer Web pages that are not included in it by default. Flash.ocx is the ActiveX file used by Flash Player 6 and swflash.ocx is the ActiveX file used by earlier versions.

Why do I need to uninstall Flash Player?

Although useful, you might want to uninstall your current Flash Player for the following reasons:

  • You keep receiving the error message: “The flash component flash.ocx is missing”
  • You want to upgrade your current Flash Player and want to perform a clean install.
  • You want to fix problems with your current Flash Player.

How to uninstall Flash Player 6 or earlier

Listed below are the steps to manually remove Macromedia Flash Player Version 6 or earlier:

  1. Close all Internet Explorer windows open on your computer.
  2. Open Start menu and select Search.
  3. Select All Files and Folders and then perform a search for flash.ocx file. (If you want to remove a version earlier than Flash 6, then search for the swflash.ocx file.)
  4. Write down the filename and its path.
  5. Next, open Start menu again and select Run.
  6. Here, type the following command (using the filename and path you wrote down earlier):
    regsvr32 Fullpathfilename /u
For instance, if you are removing Flash 6 from Windows XP installed on the C drive of your hard disk, then the command you will use would be similar to:
    regsvr32 C:WindowsSystem32MacromedFlash flash.ocx /u
  7. Select OK and then click OK to confirm the prompt displayed by the Regsvr32 command. If you receive an error message, check your command for the correct path and file name.
  8. After you have unregistered the Flash file, perform a search for the following files and delete them. If you get multiple copies of the same file then delete all of them.
    • enterflash.ocx (for Flash 6) or swflash.ocx (for versions earlier than Flash 6)
    • swflash.inf (This file is used by the Macromedia Flash Player ActiveX control installation process.)
  9. Restart your PC.

How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Due to recent enhancements to the Adobe Flash Player installers, you can now remove the player only by using the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller. To remove Flash Player, simply download and run the appropriate uninstaller for your system using the steps below.

  1. Download the Adobe Flash Player uninstaller:
  2. Save the file to your system, choosing a location where you can find it (for example, your desktop). Macintosh users may need to open or unstuff the .hqx file.
  3. Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications are still in memory which might possibly use Flash Player.
  4. Run the uninstaller. This will remove Adobe Flash Player from all browsers on the system.

Note: The uninstaller cannot remove files currently in use.

If you have any instances of the player open in your web browsers, instant messaging clients, stand-alone SWFs, or projectors, then the uninstaller will complete but some files may not be deleted. If this occurs, then close all of your applications and run the uninstaller again to ensure that all files are removed.

Note: Internet Explorer users may have to reboot to clear all uninstalled Flash Player ActiveX control files. If you're not certain, select the "Show Details" button in the Flash Player uninstaller. If there are any log lines that begin with "Delete on Reboot..." then you'll need to reboot BEFORE running the Flash Player installer again.
